Diana: A Fashion Tribute

A content creator collaboration

Diana’s keen sense of fashion caught the attention of global media and set countless trends. In spite of her personal struggles within her royal marriage, she still maintained her poise in front of the countless cameras and always put her sense of duty first. Her aspirational legacy as a humanitarian and influence as a fashion icon continues to intrigue and inspire us today. In 1987, Diana wore an icy blue chiffon gown by Catherine Walker to the Cannes Film Festival that over the years has been continuously praised by Vogue as one of her best looks. Today, when a contemporary dressmaker and a vintage content creator work together to pay tribute to Diana’s forward style, we take a moment to reflect on that shining moment in fashion history. Rose as Diana visits a theater event packed with spectators, yet, despite the crowded surroundings, still finds herself looking inwards.

Watch Ryan make the dress

Using the fabrics provided by Zelouf, Ryan spent nearly 100 hours to re-construct the Catherine Walker dress. The dress and scarf combined used 20 yards of blue chiffon, and the hand-pleated top was almost entirely attached by hand. The dress was made in Ryan’s studio in Orlando, finished in Boston, and then shipped overseas to Rose in the Netherlands.

Watch Rose behind-the-scenes

Taking her dedication has far as she could go, Rose visits a famous hairdresser to get Diana’s layered hairstyle. Later accompanied by her father and brother, Rose led the art direction for her Diana shoot at a nearby concert hall. A concept pianist was playing on the stage during the entire shoot creating the perfect atmosphere for the moment.
